Heather received her PhD in Human Genetics from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she studied the role of Topoisomerase II Beta in androgen-mediated transcriptional programs in prostate cancer cell lines. Prior to her degree, she worked in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology research group at Tufts University in collaboration with the Mother Infant Research Institute at Tufts Medical Center, where she worked on myriad maternal/fetal genetics projects. After graduating, she was a Computational Biologist at the Broad Institute, studying a rare neurodegenerative disorder, X-Linked Dystonia Parkinsonism, and developing methods for robust gene co-expression analysis. At the HSPH Bioinformatics Core, she splits her time between analysis and teaching. She has a particular interest in integrating gene expression with other modalities such as ChIPseq and HiC, and a passion for teaching bioinformatics to other scientists.
